Scottish Football Midweek Preview

There’s another full card of SPL action tonight as the League tries to ease the pressure on the fixture list following a somewhat harrowing winter. We preview the games, try our hand at predicting some scores and look forward to another evening of top-drawer football in the Highlands, as two teams who between them have conceded 112 goals all season meet up to send another generation of  Highland children straight to their nearest shinty club.

We begin, as ever, in the SPL and in perfect alphabetical order. Step forward Messrs Mowbray and Jefferies. Continue reading →

Scottish Cup Fourth Round (Part 2)

The Fourth round of this year’s Scottish Cup continues tonight with both Celtic and Rangers in action. Division One’s runaway leaders Dundee also take to the field. We had one upset in yesterday’s games as Motherwell where knocked out by Inverness Caley.

With the games at Raith Rovers and Livingston postponed,  is there still a chance of another upset on the cards this evening…? Continue reading →

More Scottish games called off

We’ve been calling for the introduction of winter breaks for a while now – if not permanently, but just on a trail basis for one season to see how things would work out. We say this because the weather has put paid to a few more games today, and possible Monday causing the sort of fixture pile-up that most teams could well do without.

Today’s games called off (so far) include Aberdeen’s game in Perth against St Johnstone, while in the First Division, the games at Ayr, Morton and Ross County have been postponed.

In the Second and Third divisions there are 6 games that have fallen foul of the weather. The full list (as at 1315) reads as follows:

SPL
St Johnstone v Aberdeen

FIRST DIVISION

Ayr United v Airdrie United
Morton v Inverness CT
Ross County v Queen of the South

SECOND DIVISION

Clyde v Alloa Athletic
Stirling v East Fife
Brechin v Dumbarton

THIRD DIVISION
Albion Rovers v Livingston
Elgin City v Annan Athletic
Forfar Athletic v East Stirlingshire

HIGHLAND LEAGUE
Clachnacuddin v Forres Mechanics
Fort William v Rothes
Fraserburgh v Lossiemouth
Huntly v Deveronvale
Inverurie Locos v Formartine Utd
Keith v Strathspey Thistle
Turriff United v Nairn County

Integrity is no substitute for common sense

Did you know that in Switzerland it is illegal to flush the toilet after 10 PM? Or that in Thailand, it is illegal to leave your house without wearing underwear? In Los Angeles, a man can legally beat his wife with a leather belt or strap, but the belt can’t be wider than 2 inches, unless he has his wife’s consent to beat her with a wider strap.

And in Scotland, failing to check the paperwork prior to a Scottish Cup game can have you expelled from the competition. Crazy. Continue reading →

The Highland League Shows Itself Up In Public

21.12// We’ve featured some of Dave’s videos on the site (without permission it has to be said, sorry), but fuck it, sign the petition anyway. Time to show the suits at the Highland League that they’re just plain wrong, as twohundredpercent points out rather neatly.

The Scottish Football Christmas Alphabet

It’s time again for Inside Left to take a wee break, so updates will be a little sporadic between now our return in January. But in keeping with tradition, we like to round off the year with our Christmas alphabet. A is for …

The Monday Ballbag

In another action-packed weekend of Scottish football, Aberdeen fail to capitalise on last week’s epic win against Rangers, Hamilton record a rare win but a tunnel fracas after their game with Hearts will keep the SFA busy this week. And it’s a sign that all is not well in Scottish football when only 16 goals are scored in the Highland League and Fort William win again. Strange days indeed…

Four to Follow Round-up

Jings. We really, really, really must stop doing this. Our predictions are pure gash folks! To wit: this week, we continue with what is fast becoming a tradition by getting none of our predictions right.
