Llanelli 0-3 Motherwell

Motherwell overcame their shock first-leg Europa League defeat to Llanelli with a dominant win at Parc y Scarlets.

John Sutton blew a great chance with an early header, but quickly made amends to nod in Steven Hammell’s cross.  A carbon-copy attack down the left on 24 minutes saw Sutton head his second from a Paul Slane cross. Llanelli’s Andrew Mumford was twice denied by great Michael Fraser saves, before substitute Jamie Murphy sealed Jim Gannon’s first win as manager. Murphy profited from a counter-attack from deep in his own half. The Steelmen poured forward, Jim O’Brien skipping past Michael Howard before providing a delightful chip for Murphy to head in with his first touch of the night.

The result was sweet revenge for the Scots, after Stuart Jones’ goal at the Excelsior Stadium last week gave Gannon a horrendous start to his Motherwell reign. The Steelmen now face a two-leg second qualifying round match against Albanian outfit KS Flamurtari Vlore.
