Inside Left brings you six websites where you can watch Scottish Football League match highlights for free – and none of them involve needing to download a dodgy plug-in, Chinese commentary or a video screen the size of a matchbox …
We begin in the First Division. If Livingston’s website was anything like their on-field performances (i.e slick, fast and good looking) they’d be playing Champions League football by now. Their site is a treasure trove of useful info, not least the fact that you can watch highlights of all their games this season on line. LiviTV has excellent quality videos of Livingston’s games from this season. At the time of writing, the site was last updated with highlights of the 2-2 draw with Morton last week but expect the highlights of their cracking 4-2 encounter with Ross County to be up before too long. Livingston have well-published financial issues so we don’t expect this service to be free for too much longer, so go and watch while you can.
Second Division Stirling Albion are another side to put their match highlights on the web. In their webcast section you can see most of Stirling’s games this season including the 4-3 defeat at local rivals Alloa back in November. Like the Livingston highlights, the quality is exceptional. The site was last updated with yesterdays 2-1 win away at Brechin.
Peterhead, the Blue Toon, are a team close to our hearts, coming from the North-east of Scotland and all that. The Peterhead website is a bit of a mishmash of adds and obscure menus, but hidden amongst it all is a real gem. Under ‘Fixtures’, you get a list of all of Peterhead’s games this season with match reports and, in some cases, video highlights. Of particular interest are the 3-0 win over Ayr United (at the time top of the table) and the 5-1 win at home to Brechin City. Not every game is featured, but there’s enough there to keep you entertained through those long afternoons at work. Aberdeen fans can click the link safe in the knowledge that the 4-0 stuffing during pre-season are, thankfully, not captured on video.
Queens Park, Scotland’s oldest football club also have their own video highlight section on their website. Via Queens Park TV you can see some of their recent games. It’s not updated regularly (the last match shown being the 1-2 defeat at a near-empty Hampden against Arbroath), but who knows, maybe they’ll add more stuff soon so keep coming back to check
Now, we’ve been reading ‘Pointless’, Jeff Connor’s story of a year with East Stirlingshire FC during one of their disastrous seasons back in the day before Forfar and Elgin City became even worse than the Shire. It’s a cracking book and worth getting – we read it in 2 days and once we finished it, we started again. Things are looking up for the club who once faced re-election to the league. Formerly based in Falkirk but now playing their games at Ochilview, Stenhousemuir, they’re currently in fourth spot in the Third division. Their website is cracking, as is their video highlights section. It requires registration (free) but once inside, there’s match highlights and interviews with management and players.
Fraserburgh FC, who play in the Highland League also have a video section, though it’s not been updated for quite some time. Nevertheless, to give you a taste of what Highland League football is like, get along to their webcasts. There are highlights of one game (against Wick Academy back in August last year), but the 2008/09 pre-season and 2007/08 highlights are well worth watching.
